Martin Limited Edition Cowboy 2015
This guitar actually has me lost for words....
This one is from 2015 but is New Old Stock. Found in the hidden depths of the Martin warehouse.
I didn't really know what to expect when i purchased this one, but i have to say that it's one of the nicest Martin guitars i've ever laid my hands on. Probably not one for the shrinking violets among us as it has the amazing watercolour portrayal of a cowboys from the American West, which was designed by world reknowned artist - William Matthews.
Only a handful of these guitars arrived in the UK and only a very small amount of them were ever put into production.
Beneath all the glitz and glam, we have one of the sweetest sounding Martins ever! If this guitar was ordered at todays prices from the Custom Shop, it would retails at least £2,000 more and that's without the extra artwork. It's one of the first guitars to have Martins V.T.S system, which is a way of pre-aging the top to sound just like a super old guitar.
Here's what Martin have to say about the spec of this guitar:
"William Matthews is widely known for his beautiful watercolor portrayal of the working cowboys from the great ranches of the American West. Mr. Matthews created a design for us that will debut at the 2015 Summer NAMM trade show. The LE-Cowboy-2015 is a 000-12 fret with a Sitka spruce top finished with Martin's Vintage Tone System (VTS). The top is inlaid with a multi-color rope design, and the back and sides are made of goncalo alves. This unique collector's guitar will only be sold in 2015.
The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system. The VTS acts much like a time machine in which Martin can target certain time periods and age the top/braces to that era. This focused method allows Martin's craftsmen and women to recreate not only the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar, but also reproduce the special tones previously reserved for vintage instruments."
