Suhr make some super sweet, USA constructed guitars. Their Antique ranges are among the most playable and authentically aged vintage styled guitars on the market, now, inspired by the classic finish over finish paint jobs of years past, 200 Limited Edition Suhr Antique Finish over Finish models are about to be released.
Traditionally, finish over finish paint jobs would be a fresh block colour over Sunburst, the origins of this process are still a little unclear but one suggestion is that since Sunburst was a standard colour, all production guitars would be finished in this colour and simply painted over if a customer requested a custom colour finish. The other suggestion is that solid block colour was applied to cover flawed or damaged sunburst finishes.
These guitars feature all the vintage elements we love but back it up with super stable and reliable modern-day benefits. Each Suhr is crafted to replicate these unique finishes, by coating the 3 Tone Sunburst with a thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer and then carefully ageing, you can see the distinctive Sunburst finishes through the tasty relic'd Olympic White.
The Maple neck is also tinted and finished in nitro for a smooth, slick feel. With a C medium profile, a compound 9''-12'' radius and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard this is a substantial but really comfortable guitar.
Benefitting from 3 Mike Landau Standard single coil pickups it replicates those famous Strat tones, rich, punchy and ready to growl. The ML Standard pickups are overwound for increased sustain and a higher output. The Classic Antique is versatile and adaptable and boosted by the Suhr SSCII, a completely transparent noise reduction system. Installed inside the body, it reduces 60 cycle hum and has no effect on tone, it just helps keep those crystal clear tones ringing!
